5 Hidden Water Pool Facts

by Jason Filed Under: Blog

Hidden water pools are no longer for the rich and famous. While they do initially cost more than a traditional swimming pool, hidden water swimming pools have a wow factor that people want in their backyards. A hidden water pool disappears underneath a solid layer of decorative concrete to create a unique and functional space for the homeowner. There is not much information available about these pools except directly from the company. However, here are 5 hidden water pools facts that everyone needs to know.

Hidden Water Swimming Pool Pricing

1. Size and Shape

Hidden water pools are available in several round diameter sizes and only two rectangular shaped models. Round pools come in 12, 14, 16 or 18 foot diameter. Rectangular pools come in either 8 foot by 14 foot or 10 foot by 18 foot. The depth of hidden water pools can be adjusted by the homeowner to anywhere from one inch to six feet.

2. Installation

The installation of hidden water pools is very similar to that of conventional in-ground swimming pools. Within the backyard or area where the pool will be set, the area must be leveled and dug down to the correct depth for the pool. The company then comes in and installs pool and concrete base. The customer is able to pick out the design on the base. This is what will be seen when the swimming pool is hidden and the concrete base is used as functional space. There are many designs to choose from that will fit the style of the surroundings.

3. How It Works

Hidden water pools have a base that can be lowered to create the actual swimming pool. When the base is up, or is flush with the existing patio, the water is kept within a reservoir. The base is the decorative concrete that is raised or lowered to reveal the swimming pool. A switch is installed that controls the hidden water pool. The homeowner will use the switch to raise or lower the base. The base can be lowered to where only one inch of water is available or up to six feet of water. The raising and lowering of the base takes only a few minutes to fully utilize.

4. Maintenance

The general maintenance costs of a typical in-ground pool can be high. The swimming pool must be constantly cleaned and the water treated. This takes time and money to upkeep the chemical levels and ensures that the pool is healthy for people to swim in. Hidden water pools have much less maintenance because the water is not in constant direct sunlight. This makes the pH balance of the water more stable and does not need strict monitoring of the chemical levels.

5. Initial Cost

The initial cost of hidden water pools can seem staggering at first. But when you weigh the pros and cons along with the extensive maintenance costs of traditional pools, the cost does not seem so out of this world. The expense of the pool plus installation can run from $25,000 to $65,000.

I understand there has to be a range in installation cost but $40k is rather a large range. What factors cause it to be $65k? Maybe by the time you get to installing in TN, I can save up the money and convince my husband of how happy I’d be having one. Can it be heated so we could use in the winter?
